Dance-making for movers of all levels—to regulate, reconnect, and express authentically.
I help people discover dance as a powerful way to calm our nervous systems and unlock our natural creativity. Whether you’re feeling stuck, stressed, or disconnected from yourself, my aim is to give you practical tools to find your center again—not through perfecting steps, but through movement that actually helps you feel better and express what’s uniquely yours.
What I Offer
Teaching Residencies + Workshops
I offer a range of teaching residencies and workshops designed for different communities and skill levels. For advanced dancers, I lead specialized workshops in Irish dance for contemporary dancers, contemporary Irish dance for traditional step dancers, and step dance rhythms. Beginners can explore Irish social dancing through accessible workshops—perfect for weddings, corporate events, or groups simply wanting to get moving together. I also teach dance strength classes for experienced movers and offer workshops at festivals.
For schools, I offer week-long residencies tailored to age and developmental stage. Younger students engage in creative movement residencies that build foundational skills through play and exploration. Older students experience movement work focused on nervous system regulation, creative expression, and discovering dance traditions from around the world. All residencies integrate my approach of dance as a tool for connection—to ourselves, our bodies, and our communities.
Choreography
I create choreography that bridges tradition and innovation, drawing on my deep roots in Irish step dance and my training in ballet and contemporary forms. My work explores how traditional movement vocabularies can speak to contemporary themes and audiences.
I choreograph musicals for high schools, and I am seeking additional opportunities with high schools and community theaters. I bring dynamic staging and culturally authentic movement to theatrical productions, making each show both visually compelling and true to its source material.
I also create performance-focused Irish dance works that push beyond the traditional competitive framework, exploring the expressive and theatrical potential of the form. Currently, I’m seeking opportunities to set contemporary Irish dance choreography for dance companies, theaters, and festivals. I’m particularly interested in collaborations that explore Irish dance as a living, evolving art form—honoring its rich tradition while expanding its creative possibilities. Whether working with trained Irish dancers or contemporary artists curious about the form, I create work that’s rhythmically compelling, physically rigorous, and emotionally resonant.
I believe dance is more than technique. It’s a tool for regulating our nervous systems, reconnecting with our bodies, and expressing what makes us uniquely human. I integrate multiple movement modalities into my teaching, drawing on yoga, child development, and somatic practices to help dancers build confidence, self-trust, and age-appropriate movement skills.
What people are saying
“We are eternally grateful to Carlye for her profound love of teaching, generous kindness, and steadfast devotion to this work. She teaches people not just to be great dancers, but inspiring them to become mentors themselves.”
“Carlye has supported me while I've navigated my burnout recovery, offering a nurturing and safe environment. In our work, she guided me towards a new perspective on work-life balance and equipped me with practical tools for daily life. I'm gradually learning to set better boundaries and prioritize smarter, so I can be present both at work, with my family, and myself.”
“I have enjoyed every single session with Carlye. The sessions help me dig deep in myself and understand my values as well as listen to my body. Carlye has given me tools to return back to body and give it the space it needs. I have long lasting effects from traumatic events and this is helping me reconnect with myself.”
“It was a safe environment to try new things and the class had wonderful energy! I love Carlye’s style, she’s really friendly and open and doesn’t make anybody feel bad. She makes it a community vibe in there.”
About Me
My dance training spans traditional Irish step dance, classical ballet, and contemporary dance. I’ve toured throughout the US and Ireland, performing with artists like The Chieftains, Gaelic Storm, Eileen Ivers, and Old Blind Dogs. In 2012, I founded the Seattle Irish Dance Company, the first professional Irish dance company in the Pacific Northwest.
Throughout my career, I’ve brought the joy of dance to hundreds of students, working as a teaching artist across Canada and the US. My approach focuses on helping students find their own creative expression within traditional dance frameworks—honoring the form while making space for individual artistry.
Currently, I teach in-person and virtual classes in traditional Irish step dance, social dance, and contemporary dance for adults. Whether working with lifelong dancers or people just beginning their movement journey, my goal is the same: to help them discover the joy of artistic expression and feel more at home in their bodies.
